Company overview

Newtech Energy is a specialist in surface treatment, established in 1992 through a technical partnership with 2PS of France. It applies metal, ceramic and alloy coatings by four thermal spray processes — HVOF, plasma, arc and flame — to improve the wear and corrosion resistance of components. Coated parts include power plant turbine blades and pump impellers, valve spindles and piston rings for large marine engines, rolls on steel rolling lines, paper machine calender rolls, and guides and rolls used in textile processing. The company also builds up worn parts for reuse, and its portable HVOF equipment allows coating work to be carried out on site at power facilities. In 1996 the company localised plasma coating for nuclear plant latch guide tubes and thermal power plant turbine buckets, replacing an existing General Electric specification. In 2000 it obtained specification approval from MAN B&W of Germany for valve spindle coating on large marine engines and moved to volume production, and in the same year it was registered as a supplier to Korea Electric Power Corporation. At its head office in Dalseo-gu, Daegu, the company operates a surface technology research institute established in 1994 together with an ISO 9001 quality management system.

Thermal spray coating

A surface treatment in which coating material is melted at high temperature and driven onto the part surface at high velocity to form a film. HVOF, plasma, arc and flame processes are selected to suit the material and the required properties; part size is not a major constraint and the work can be carried out on site.

CERABLADE® coating blades

CERABLADE® coating blades

Blades that level the coating layer and scrape the surface in papermaking. The range covers cermet-based T-series and ceramic-based C-series blades, creping blades and flow clean doctor blades, made to suit each customer's machine conditions.

Splicing tape (Arion)

Splicing tape (Arion)

A repulpable tape for joining paper rolls in the papermaking process. It provides high initial tack and heat resistance, disperses in water so it does not disrupt recycling, and gives off no pungent odour.

Silicon powder for battery anodes

Silicon powder for battery anodes

Silicon powder used as anode active material in lithium secondary batteries. Development began in 2016 and volume production started in 2022 at a plant in the Blue Valley national industrial complex in Pohang.
