What DGMC is
The Daegu Gyeongbuk Machinery Cooperative (DGMC) held its founding assembly in March 1962 and was licensed that April (Gyeongsangbuk Province licence no. 2078). It is a non-profit industry association under Korea’s Small and Medium Enterprise Cooperatives Act — not a trading company, but a body representing the region’s manufacturers. When Daegu became a metropolitan city in 1981, the cooperative took its present name (Ministry of Commerce and Industry licence no. 109). It marked its 60th anniversary in November 2022. Its published member directory lists 467 companies — 301 in Daegu and 166 in Gyeongbuk. The secretariat is based in the cooperative’s own building in the Seongseo 5th Industrial Complex, completed in August 2014.
What the members make
Daegu and Gyeongbuk form Korea’s oldest machinery and metalworking industrial region. More than half the members build industrial machinery and mechanical components; automotive parts, casting, dies and textile machinery follow. The breakdown below shows the full picture. Most are small and medium manufacturers working to order — they build parts and equipment to a customer’s drawings and specifications rather than selling mass-market goods. If you need something made to your own drawing, these are the kind of manufacturers to talk to.
What the cooperative does
DGMC supports its members across several fronts: joint projects in production, procurement and sales; management and technical consulting; vocational training for technical staff; industry research and information services; and product standardisation with joint inspection. It also consolidates the concerns of smaller manufacturers and brings them to government. That matters on the buying side too. The companies on this site are not names found at random online — they are members of an organisation that has operated for more than sixty years and vouches for that membership.
Working overseas
Opening overseas markets has long been part of the cooperative’s work: market research abroad, trade missions, machinery exhibitions at home and overseas, and product showrooms. In August 2012 it was selected for a regional strategic-industry programme to build overseas bases. That was the starting point for the overseas marketing centers the cooperative runs today, the Vietnam Marketing Center among them.
